How/When to Use:
Hot packs are great for increasing blood flow to help restore movement to injured tissue. The heat emanating from the pack can also reduce joint stiffness, pain and muscle spasms. Similarily to cold packs, hot packs provide a role to ease pain from acute and chronic injuries. Hot packs should be used wrapped in a towel for 20-30 minutes at a time. However, the temptation to use a hot pack after an injury to sooth the pain may cause more harm than good. New injuries should be treated with cold packs for a couple of days before switching to a hot compress.
